The Jewel Box/Turtle house is located in the Enchanted
Forest of Big Sur. It is a new and unique 1 or 2 bedroom, 2-bath custom
home designed by Carver and Schicketanz and carefully built. It is beautifully furnished, approximately 1600
square feet, in the redwoods next to a year-round creek. The hexagonal center core with four arms cantilevered out into the
forest and over the creek, a large redwood deck, and a separate hot tub deck fits among the trees in a natural setting. There are lots of windows and skylights giving plenty of light and fantastic views
of the forest and the creek. The house has been featured on the television program
Chronicle and House and Garden TV as well as California Home and Design magazine. The
furniture was custom designed and built for the home by Morris Sheppard/Sheppard Design who has his work displayed in
the Guggenheim. The living room is a cozy area for conversation with a wood stove on
a granite hearth as the focal point. The study/library features two desks with
views and a fax machine. The gourmet kitchen includes a Wolf stove, All-Clad
cookware, a microwave, dishwasher, and granite counters. The master bedroom has
a platform queen bed with the same size skylight above. Perfect for stargazing! The master bath is all granite with a shower for two and two sinks. The balance of
the house has maple hardwood floors. Other conveniences include hot tub, radiant
heat, washer/dryer, satellite TV/radio, home theater, and a back-up generator in case of power outages. A series of footpaths
leads you through the private 16+ acres of forest and up the hill to a view of the ocean. With the recent acquisition by The
Big Sur Land Trust of the Palo Corona Ranch, the property now has preserve on two and one-half sides. It is only 30 minutes from Pebble Beach and many stores yet very secluded and a quite retreat.
It is listed by JoAnna Tupman
of Sotheby's in Monterey, CA for $3 Million.
